Newton Orient FC were formed in 1997 by Graham Cox and Andy Eggbeer. Having played Sunday football with various teams, they decided to form their own side; a nuclease of players which have played with them over the years joined them and helped to establish the side. A large number of players who played during that first season are still actively involved with the Orient. The decision to join a league was not a difficult one, having confirmed their status as one of the best Sunday sides around, they turned their head to some friendlies against league sides with much success, and it was felt a new challenge was needed. So having entered the
Torbay combination league for the 2001/2002 campaign, we had a reasonably good first season. Orient finished 5th in the league and losing semi finalist in the supplementary cup. With a strengthened squad and renewed enthusiasm, we where optomistic of an even better second season. This we achieved, having reached the final of the Torbay Sunday supplementary cup, Orient lifted there 1st silverware in a close final. This was rounded off with an excellent 3rd place finish which was enough to give Orient promotion to the top division. Since then Orient have battled to keep their first division status. New signings brought in by manager Jason Kinsman has given the side a much needed boost as they start the 2007/8 campaign.
